Mini-slabs from NNR: innovative product for numismatists

06.12.2024

Coin grading is becoming increasingly popular among numismatists. Many collectors choose slabs not only to confirm the authenticity and safety of the coin, but also for the reliability and convenience of storing their numismatic collections.
The National Numismatic Register (NNR) is the first russian coins graiding company.

A lot of free space is required to store coin collections in slabs. This is especially true for large collections of small coins. The coins, which are small in diameter, occupy only a small part of the slab, as a result, the collector is forced to allocate significantly more space for storing his collection. In this regard, many numismatists choose alternative ways of storing coins using plastic or cardboard albums, holders, etc. However, if you choose low-quality accessories for storing coins or under unsuitable storage conditions (temperature, humidity), significant damage can be caused to coins. Everyone knows the harmful effect of albums and holders containing PVC, which have a detrimental effect on the coin.

In this regard, for the first time in world practice among grading companies, the NNR from 2017 has come up with an innovative solution to provide coin collectors with the opportunity to slab their coins in reduced-size capsules (minisabs).

If we compare the dimensions of the NNR minicapsule with the standard one, then it is significantly smaller, so with a standard capsule width of 60 mm, the width of the minicapsule is 46 mm, the height of the minicapsule is 63 mm versus 85 mm of the standard one. Also, the thickness of the mini-slab is 3 mm thinner than the standard one.

Such compact dimensions of the minicapsules have a positive effect on the occupied storage space. So, in terms of volume, one standard capsule corresponds to about 4 mini-slabs. This significantly optimizes the space for storing coins, allowing you to store more coins in the same place, which is important for both the home and the safe deposit box.

Mini-slabs from NNR are very compact and thin, it is unusual to hold them in your hand, but very comfortable. There is also an opportunity to see the coin's edge.
